If the following day had been sunny, we would have explored a garden on an island in a lake in the Lake District. But it was rainy, so we drove along the shore of Lake Como, and spent the afternoon in Vercelli, where the family of one of my coworkers is from. Then we headed to our next Alpine hotel above the city of Bergamo. The traffic was so horrible getting to our hotel that we switched to an airport hotel for the following night so we wouldn't miss our flight out.
