It takes a heron quite a while to maneuver a fish into swallowing position, maybe ten minutes. The fish has to be not moving vigorously, and then it has to be lined up so that it doesn't go down sideways. The fish of course is trying to get away for as long as it can. Animals are very un-kosher in their killing habits.
