Owls and Hawks

We saw some owls and a hawk.

A short-eared owl, which our guides were very excited to see close up. Guides are often excited to find birds that they say are rare or in an unusual place. It's not clear how much of this is showmanship.

Here's the same hawk in front of a landscape of bare trees and lava. A lot of the trees down there only bother to put out leaves when it's raining.
