Fakarava and Moorea

After another day at sea, we arrived at Fakarava, an atoll in the Tuamotu group. The next day, we went to Moorea, a large island very close to Tahiti.

Fakarava is a large rectangular outline of where an island used to be. We spent the morning snorkeling, where we saw some beautiful clams embedded in the rocks and several nice fish. At lunch there was a feast set up which included at least six different preparations of coconut, and some nice tapioca cakes.

On Moorea, we went on an "underwater walk" excursion, which featured these very needy sting rays. Whenever we'd look at some of the other fish under the water, they would get in our face, demanding to be petted.

The 70-lb helmet which is very lightweight underwater. The air pressure in the helmet keeps the water from filling it up, as long as you remain vertical.
