{"id":36,"date":"2017-08-28T00:25:20","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T00:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/apresmidi.net\/eee2017\/log\/?p=36"},"modified":"2017-08-28T01:21:06","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T01:21:06","slug":"not-so-clear-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apresmidi.net\/eee2017\/log\/2017\/08\/28\/not-so-clear-lake\/","title":{"rendered":"[not so] Clear Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The trip began <strong>Friday<\/strong>, August 11, with dropping Justin off at the airport, for a cruise from Bergen to Murmansk and back. \u00a0We proceeded to the annual\u00a0two-week party at Indian Beach Resort at Clear Lake, getting up there around 3pm. \u00a0There were probably a dozen or so people up there, including\u00a0Juliette, who is almost four months old. \u00a0We went out on the motorboat \u201cBrown Squall\u201d, from which her dad Skot wavesurfed: \u00a0he got up on his\u00a0surfboard, threw the rope back to the boat, and followed it closely by surfing on its wake.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/><i class=\"\">I&#8217;m tired just from watching Skot wake surf. \u00a0What is it about these guys? \u00a0They don&#8217;t mind that they are wet. \u00a0They don&#8217;t mind that it hurts. \u00a0They don&#8217;t\u00a0mind that it&#8217;s exertion. \u00a0They seek out all those feelings. \u00a0What in the world is that like?<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>The boat conked out in mid surf while Alex was trying to duplicate Skot&#8217;s feat. \u00a0Adam took some time getting it started again. \u00a0Sounded like the\u00a0carburetor was flooded but that wouldn&#8217;t explain the original problem.<br class=\"\" \/><\/i><br class=\"\" \/><strong>Saturday<\/strong> and <strong>Sunday<\/strong> were more of the same. \u00a0The lake had so much algae this year that there was no oxygen left for the fish, and several of them\u00a0floated dead on the water: \u00a0Jenny directed us on a Dead Fish Cruise down near the town of Clearlake, where the largest and most bloated specimens\u00a0could be appreciated. \u00a0Afterwards, we went someplace far away and swam a bit. \u00a0There were many rides on boats each day.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>The drug of choice for most of the party people is Coors Lite or Bud Lite, since it\u2019s so darned hot there, like 100 degrees during the day. \u00a0Our friend\u00a0Tollef brought a bunch of beer from his brewery (Temescal, in Oakland), which had actual flavor. \u00a0And there was wine, and our friend Alex made\u00a0punch, which he says is from the Bengali word for five, as in Panch Phoron. \u00a0Wikipedia backs him up on this. \u00a0And, for the very first time, I saw just a\u00a0bit of cocaine served on an iPhone, which I suppose makes sense.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/><i class=\"\">Sadie [Adam and Jenny\u2019s dog] seems even older. \u00a0She had to be separated from a larger black even friendlier and fluffier dog, in the water, because\u00a0she is just not up to play any more, and she doesn&#8217;t know it.<br class=\"\" \/><\/i><br class=\"\" \/><i class=\"\">For some reason the dinner conversation got to the subject of female stand up urination, and Alex said that when he was eleven years old and\u00a0coming from a family backpacking expedition on the Wyoming Montana border, he was in a bar in their unisex bathroom with a row of tall urinals and\u00a0a person came in and unzipped and he realized she was a woman, and she pissed anyway, as a man does. \u00a0I said, you should testify to the Texas\u00a0Legislature how this traumatized you, and he said, that&#8217;s why I got so into wearing women&#8217;s dresses. \u00a0These extended jokes, building Bulwer-Lytton-wise on each other, are responsible for a lot of creation myths among dull psychologists.<br class=\"\" \/><\/i><br class=\"\" \/>Saturday night had a game of Pictionary, featuring totally made-up words, like \u201cClampari\u201d (there was a Campari umbrella nearby). \u00a0I couldn\u2019t figure\u00a0anything out.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>Everyone left on Sunday, except us and Adam.\u00a0<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/><strong>Monday<\/strong>, August 14, we packed up, stopped at the Redbud Trailhead on highway 20 nearby, and walked 2.5 miles to Cache Creek and back. \u00a0It was a\u00a0very pretty walk, starting out in a bunch of trees which were burned in the Rocky fire two years earlier. \u00a0From there, we had lunch with an Opcode\u00a0coworker Kim in Redding, and stopped at the AAA where we got some paper maps, and asked if they could help with my drivers license which expires just\u00a0before we get back in November. \u00a0They couldn\u2019t, but they did point out that the DMV in Mt.
