Strasbourg has a huge Catholic cathedral and many good Alsatian restaurants. Luxembourg is a city with dramatic ravines and cute castles.

One of the most interesting things was an astronomical clock which had several little mechanically animated characters which went through various motions at 12:30 pm, or noon GMT. Father Time chased a baby; the 12 apostles of Christ processed before him, and Christ then crossed himself; a rooster crowed a few times. |

These guys were tuning the organ, adding somewhat strange sounds to the scene. There were signs warning us about pickpockets, about the only time we were made not to feel safe the entire trip. |

The Luxembourg cathedral had two organs, a classical one in back, and a symphonic one on the side in front. Both of them were being played while we were there, fortunately not simultaneously. |

Luxembourg is no longer the smallest nation in the EU --- that honor now goes to Malta, which is about an eighth the size. |
